Canarana’s Liberal Party Expels Councilman Accused of Child Sex Crimes The Liberal Party (PL) in Canarana, Mato Grosso, announced on Monday, October 2, the expulsion of councilman and physician Thiago Bitencourt Ianhes Barbosa, who is under investigation for child sexual abuse, possession, and distribution of child pornography. The decision was communicated by the municipal president of the party, pediatrician Claudia Gervazoni, in a video posted on social media. Gervazoni stated that the measure was taken in conjunction with the state president of the party, Ananias Filho. "Given the extremely serious facts in which he is involved, we affirm clearly: we will not cover up, no matter who it is. The PL of Canarana has a side, and it is the side of ethics, respect, and responsibility for our city and our population," declared Gervazoni. The president also spoke as a mother and a health professional to express her repudiation of the situation. "I come as a mother, as a woman, and as a pediatrician to express my indignation, my strong repudiation of this entire situation that, unfortunately, we are experiencing in our city. It could not be different," she stated. The councilman, who also works as a physician, is being investigated by the Civil Police. The Regional Council of Medicine of Mato Grosso (CRM-MT) has already initiated an inquiry to investigate the professional conduct of the accused, who may also face an ethical process.
